Privacy Policy — Bulk File Downloader

Last updated: March 3, 2026

Overview

Bulk File Downloader ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps users find and download files from web pages. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and what leaves your device.

The short version: we do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Everything the Extension does happens locally on your device.

Data We Do Not Collect

The Extension does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
  • Your browsing history or the pages you visit
  • The content of web pages you scan
  • Any files you download
  • Your IP address or location
  • Clicks, keystrokes, or any user activity
  • Financial or payment information

What the Extension Accesses and Why

Page Content (Local Only)

When you click "Scan Page", the Extension reads the current page's DOM to find links and media elements pointing to downloadable files. This happens entirely within your browser. The list of found files is held temporarily in your browser's session storage and is automatically cleared when you close the tab or browser. None of this data is sent anywhere.

Downloads

The Extension uses Chrome's downloads API to save files you explicitly select. It does not monitor, log, or report on your download activity.

Pro License Key (Stored Locally)

If you purchase a Pro license, your license key is stored locally in Chrome's built-in sync storage (chrome.storage.sync). This storage is managed by Google and may be synced across your Chrome-signed-in devices in accordance with Google's own privacy policy.

To verify your license, the Extension sends your license key to Gumroad's API (api.gumroad.com). No other data is sent in this request. Gumroad's handling of this data is governed by Gumroad's own privacy policy, available at https://gumroad.com/privacy.

After a successful validation, the result is cached locally for 7 days to avoid repeated network calls. We — the Extension developer — never receive or have access to your license key or any associated purchase information.

Third-Party Services

The Extension communicates with one external service:

  • Gumroad (api.gumroad.com) — Used for Pro license key verification. Only your license key is sent. Their privacy policy can be found at https://gumroad.com/privacy.

No analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking tools are used.

Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

  • downloads — To download files you select.
  • storage — To save your license key and validation state locally.
  • scripting — To inject the page scanner into the active tab when you click "Scan Page".
  • activeTab — To access the current tab so the page scanner can run.
  • Host permissions (<all_urls>) — To allow scanning on any webpage you visit and to fetch files from any domain when creating a ZIP archive. This permission does not allow the Extension to track your browsing.

Children's Privacy

The Extension is a general-purpose download utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
